As Diamond Week comes to a close, I want to use this post to make a tribute to all the blog posts and articles that I’ve sat down and thought about writing over the years, but haven’t completed. This is usually because I ended up writing something that fulfilled the original goal, or more likely, I completely forgot about it because something different came up. Most of the time these drafts have some text under them, so an idea formulated at some point, I just didn’t finish the post. I think this’ll be an interesting peek into my creative process. I’ll give you the headlines and explain why they’ve gone untouched.
The Archives- Jumping Off, Jumping In–Reaction
This was supposed to be this same concept, now that I think about it. The idea was I would post my untouched reaction to the Album 70 episode, which at the time would have come out a few weeks ago. Maybe I will post this one.
Let’s Talk About Relationships: Buck and Jules
This is dated January 7th, 2021 and the oldest written draft if I’m not mistaken. From the little bit of paragraph there is, it seems like I was going to chastise the toxic relationship between Buck and Jules. A lot has changed since then. The next character I’ll be covering the Character Dev series is Jules, so I think the base will be held on this one.
Writer’s Block Investigates: Time in Odyssey
When I said I’ve been trying to put the “eras” concept together for years now, I wasn’t joking. The fifth episode of the What’s Odyssey Podcast was my first major attempt at this. The Eras series that’s going now is the new fulfillment of this itch I’ve had over the past four years. If you’ve read the first article that was released in July, you understand it’s no small project.
The Effect of The Ties That Bind
Again, part of my attempt to explain the complex lore of Odyssey. I believe it was recaptured in the first Eras post. Ironically, the only word in the draft is “the”.
A few random headcanons…
For a while in the Adventures in Odyssey fandom, “headcanons” became a trend that every blog was doing. If you know me, then you know fanfiction isn’t my best area, which is why I’m glad we have Odyssey Fiction to fill that gap.
Worst Odyssey Characters
This is just a title in my drafts. I think the reason this never made it to publishing was its hypercritical nature and the fact that I really didn’t have enough characters to put on it. It also was scheduled during our first-anniversary celebration, so I think it may have dampened the mood.
How I Planned the “Block Birthday” Celebration
If you’ve been around here long enough, you know that “Block Birthday” was the running title for the month before this site’s first anniversary. The title here was supposed to come out on October 8th. I think perhaps I didn’t want to toot my own horn too much. Looking back, a lot of what happened during that month is part of the idea of how stuff has operated this year. I will be writing something similar to this on Sunday, because this week has been a map for how things will operate in the future.
Buck Oliver Becomes Celebrity Sensation
And now we’ve come to the scrapped SONN titles! In the case of a lot of these, I didn’t think the jokes were funny enough to land. There are some SONN drafts I will omit from this list, seeing that I could use them in the future.
The Lost One Reaction and Review
A title joined with a list of multiple reviews that I didn’t have the fortitude to complete.
Rydell Children claim “We we’re playing games,” Let Off Early
This could’ve helped cash in on the already-fading Rydell controversy, but again, the jokes weren’t funny enough to warrant a whole SONN post.
AWB Anti-Jillian Summit Huge Success
Same deal as the last one, but for Jillian. I think it was too on the nose.
Top March Episodes
We’ve now moved into 2022 duds. In filling up our Episodes by Month series, it’s ironic to me that this site has never been able to get out a March edition. We’ve covered each of the other eleven months to some extent. This year, it was the podcast that seized the spotlight and work attention. We’ll try harder next year, I guess.
All of Our Best Anti-Jillian Posts
I think we should still do this one. We didn’t have many when I first wanted to make this post, but I think there’s now a substantive amount.
Why Connie Going on a Date Now is Significant
If I remember correctly, this would have been in response to one of the earliest Byte-Sized Adventures that involved a Connie romance. A major reason I never worked on it more is that “now” has sort of passed, and nobody would really find this relevant anymore.
After getting hate for the Club, AIO decides to make their own Twitter with cool new features
Again, not really that funny and not relevant anymore. This would have killed during the whole Elon Musk buying Twitter situation, which I think was my inspiration.
February Episodes
We’re now to 2023! Thank goodness we now have a February episode list! It’s also way more comprehensive than this one would have been.
Rethink the Rydell Arc.
This was another one of those articles that I wanted to write for years before I started working on it. In this case, my lengthy Rydell Realizations reviews, as well as the Rydell Reconstruction podcast episode, checked this off my mental list.
The rest of the story…
I completely forgot about this article and now that I’ve seen it, it’s one I think I need to do more than ever. The premise was to call out how numbers and consumer-focused Adventures in Odyssey has become. This was in light of the then-recent changes AIO had been making to the Club format and the all-round inclusion of Club content in the canonical lineup. This topic is no less pressing, and you can expect to see something like it in the coming months.
King of My Heart Review
This was a review I unfortunately never got to do. Circumstances ended up pulling me away from this and a lot of AWB stuff in few months after this. I think whatever I wanted to say here will be covered in the upcoming Jules post.
All Callbacks, Allusions, and Inside Jokes in This Year’s [2023’s] Averys
I think this particular post could have been a huge hit! It’s sad it never got out and it’s possible it never will.
Morally Ambiguious Episodes
This was supposed to come out after the Realizations reviews. It probably will still happen; I may try and time it around another Rydell episode for extra boost.
Albums 69 and 76: Same Characters, Different Stories
This is 100% an article I will be doing. It may be postponed to 2025. Speaking of which, we are on 2024 titles now. A lot of these are ones that I will probably still be doing. They aren’t tied to any one event and are part of the newer brand of long-form posts. Many of them are also just posts that I’m still working on.
Running the Race- 2024 Is Going To Be a Great Season
…and this is the exception to that! This post was scheduled for the week of February 26th, which as you may know, was the week I was frantically steaming to put together a podcast. This topical article didn’t happen.
May Odyssey Content
Along with March, May is the one month I’ve tried to get this done for three times in a row with no success. Fourth time’s a charm!
Adventures in Odyssey Made the Switch from Moral-Based Episodes to Story Based Ones. That’s Not Necessarily a Bad Thing.
This is the running title for the Era One explanation and recap which will come out in mid-November. It is also the end of this list! Thanks for reading. I hope you’ve enjoyed these glimpses into my creative psyche the past couple of days, such as in the interview on What’s Odyssey. A reminder to you that these ideas are technically proprietary, even though I don’t know what benefit it would be to any of you to steal them, I just explained where they all came from. I also hope you’ve enjoyed this anniversary week! It was a pleasure to share it with all of you. I appreciate the well wishes from everyone who engaged with our content! I also thank all the current AIO Writer’s Block members who agreed to do this with me! There’s more to come! I’ll see you tomorrow with announcements and some updates. For now,
